Hitode Japanese Maple is a small deciduous upright tree with petite leaves, curling in a downward direction to the lobes. Green leaves In the spring and on new growth, have a distinct rich purple outline on the lobes. The name 'Hitode' means "starfish" in Japanese, in reference to the starfish-like shape of these leaves. The hitode Japanese maple does best in sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. it grows to 8' tall x 4' wide in 10 years, remaining hardy in conditions as low as -20 degrees (USDA zone 5).
