Ulmus parvifolia 'Seiju’ is a dwarf cultivar that is primarily used for rock gardens and bonsai. It is a sport of Ulmus parvifolia ‘Hokkaido that features slightly larger leaves and a faster growth rate. Over time it may reach 10’ tall. Bark becomes corky with age. A good drought tolerant shade tree for the south. Tiny red flowers Aug.-Sept. Good resistance to Dutch elm disease, Japanese beetle and elm leaf beetle. Do not confuse with Siberian elm (incorrectly called Chinese elm) or Ulmus pumila and embrace Botanical nomenclature! It's much more accurate!
